For grown-ups

Privacy

Effective September 10, 2026

There Once Was a Whale is made for young children and their families. Privacy is part of the design, not an afterthought.

The app

The app does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal information. It has no accounts, advertising, analytics, or cross-app tracking. It does not request access to contacts, photos, location, microphone, or camera.

The selected reading mode, bubble-play preference, and audio levels are kept only on the device so they are remembered. These preferences are never sent to us or to another company. Deleting the app removes them. Because we receive no personal data, there is no off-device record to access or delete.

This website

This website does not use advertising, analytics, tracking pixels, marketing cookies, accounts, or submission forms. The hosting service may process standard technical information, such as an IP address and request details, only as needed to deliver and protect the site.

Contacting us

If a parent or guardian contacts us by email, the email service will process the address and message so we can reply. We use that information only to answer the request and handle any necessary follow-up.

Children’s privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Children should ask a parent or guardian before sending any message or following a link away from the app or website.

Changes

If the app or website changes in a way that affects privacy, this page will be updated before that change is released.
